Mack Alves
he/him
AMFT & APCC Associate Therapist
Bilingual: Spanish / English
Mack works with adults, couples, partners and families who want to understand themselves and their relationships more deeply. He supports people navigating recurring conflict, emotional disconnection, anxiety, grief, identity, life transitions and important decisions about what comes next, as well as those exploring questions of trust, intimacy and identity. His work is grounded in the belief that clients are the authors of their own lives; therapy is not about being told what choices to make but about developing greater clarity, freedom and agency in making them. His practice is 2SLGBTQIIA+ affirming and welcomes polyamorous, consensually nonmonogamous and other relationship structures.
His approach is humanistic, identity-affirming and values-informed. Mack approaches clients with respect for their autonomy, lived experience and right to define what a meaningful life and relationship looks like for themselves. His style is warm, collaborative and direct. He helps clients slow things down, recognize patterns, clarify their needs and values, and explore their options so they can make choices that are aligned with who they want to be. Rather than imposing a particular idea of what is healthy, successful or “right,” he helps clients examine what matters to them and what may be getting in the way of living accordingly.
Before becoming a therapist, Mack spent more than 15 years helping people navigate conflict, transition and change across educational and organizational settings, including Cornell University and UCLA. This background informs his attention to culture, power and values, including how systems shape people’s lives and, in turn, how individuals may exercise agency within them, assert their own influence and sometimes resist those very systems.
Mack earned his MA in Clinical Psychology: Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University and his BA in Social Sciences: Organizational Behavior and Change from New York University. He is currently pursuing a PsyD in Clinical Psychology at Meridian University.
